Youth Wrestling Rules
Individual Scoring Maneuvers:
Takedown: Bringing your opponent to the mat and gaining control of him from a neutral or standing position. Worth 2 points.
Escape: Breaking away from opponent's control to a neutral position. Worth 1 point.
2pt Near Fall: Situation in which the offensive wrestler has control of his opponent in a pinning situation and holds both his shoulders momentarily stopped within 4 inches of the mat or less, or one shoulder touching the mat and the other at an angle of 45 degrees or less with the mat. Worth 2 points.
3pt Near Fall: When the criteria for a two point near fall have been met uninterrupted for five seconds. Worth 3 points.
Fall or Pin: A fall is scored when a wrestler holds his opponent's shoulders to the mat continuously for two seconds. A fall ends the match.
Technical Fall: Any time a wrestler has gained a 15 point advantage over his opponent. A tech fall ends the match.
Infractions:
Stalling: Failing to wrestle aggressively. After one warning, the referee will penalize a wrestler for stalling by awarding one point to his opponent.
Illegal Holds: Any hold which has the potential to cause injury is illegal. The referee will award one point to the offended wrestler.
Technical Violations: Points will be awarded to the offended wrestler whose opponent commits various technical violations such as: Delay of match, intentionally going off the mat to avoid a situation and clasping hands around the opponent's body or legs while in a position of control down on the mat (locked hands).
