Wrestlers will need a few basic requirements to participate. The wrestling uniform consists of three elements: Singlet, Headgear, and Wrestling Shoes.
Singlets are the uniforms you wear during a wrestling match. They can also be worn for practice. Shorts and a t-shirt are also acceptable for practice. Singlets are provided to you through the club as a rental. The rental fee is incorporated in the membership fee. When singlets are returned at the end of your child's season $10 will be refunded to you. If singlets are not returned you will be billed $30.
Headgear protects the wrestler's ears. Repeated trauma to the ears can cause cauliflower ear. We highly recommend wearing headgear in both practice and matches, but it is not required. Wrestlers are responsible for providing their own ear protection if wanted.
Wrestling shoes are a specialized shoe designed to be used on wrestling mats. Wrestling shoes are recommended, but it is not required. Socks can be worn. The club is considering having a annual shoe drive once a year. For those who wish to participate, you can donate wrestling shoes no longer needed, to the wrestling club. This will allow us to provide shoes to those wrestlers who might otherwise not be able to get them.
All wrestlers who participate in practice must shower after getting home. Because of the nature of wrestling, your child will be sweating and making body contact with other wrestlers. This puts wrestlers at a higher risk of staph infections and MRSA. Because of this the wrestling room and all mats are thoroughly cleaned after every practice. With proper sanitation practices the probability of a breakout is very low.
